Brief introduction of the city
Aksu is located in the southern part of the Tianshan Mountain and at the verge of the northwest Tarim Basin. Aksu which means the white water in the Uighur language got its name because the Aksu River runs through it.
Aksu was a town and passage of great importance for the ancient Silk Road which section was called the Northern Way in the Han dynasty and the Mid Way in the later dynasties. It possesses a lot of scenic spots, including the peak, the desert and the river, namely the lofty Tumur Peak—the first peak in the world, the endless Takelamagan Desert and the Tarim River which is the longest inland river.
