Lantern Festival, Xuzhou

Held two weeks after the Lunar New Year, the Lantern Festival is one of the liveliest Chinese festivals here. At that time, people lighten various kinds of lanterns and fire fireworks. When you come to Gupi and Pixian County, you will find fewer firecrackers or lanterns but a new game of firebrand which is called “cast broom”. When you go further to Xinyi Region, you’ll find that their activities are similar to those of Pixian County but the time of festival is changed to February 2^nd according to the lunar calendar.
