The Changyu Wine Culture Museum is located at the official location of the Chongyu Wine Company located in the Yantai City. The museum has been created to showcase the museum’s history.
 
The museum is divided in two parts: a wine cellar built underground and a display area. The museum’s display area showcases the changes and development that the Changyu Wine Company underwent in the last century.

The History of the Museum 

The Changyu Wine Culture Museum is located at the official location of the Chongyu Wine Company located in the Yantai City. The museum has been created to showcase the museum’s history as well as that of Changyu Wine starting from 18th century. Changyu had been founded in Yantai in 1892 in the Shandong Province of East China. Originally, it had only been a small wine maker. Over the years the company has developed as a wine brand internationally recognized and sells Riesling white wine, Vermouth, Red wine and brandy that are loved all over the world.

The Cellar 

The museum is divided in two parts: a wine cellar built underground and a display area. The museum’s display area showcases the changes and development that the Changyu Wine Company underwent in the last century. The wine cellar is spared over an area of 2600 sq m. it contains 8 interlocked arches, is only a 100 meters from the coastline and is 7 meters deep. The cellar was also the first ever underground cellar in 1903 in Asia. It contains more than 600 barrels inside.

The Bar 

Inside the cellar is an elegant but simply decorated bar. Here travelers can relax and taste a wide range of wines produced by the company in an elegant atmosphere of dimmed lights and old melodies. The barrels that are used for storing wine are made from oak. There are three king barrels inside and each can house 15 tons of liquor. These are the largest barrels to be found in Asia and have a century old history. The cellar constantly maintains a temperature of 53.6-64.4 F for aging wine. The cellar is used even today for storing wine.

The Old Buckets 

The underground cellar in the museum is 7 meters deep and its construction was completed in the year 1903. The cellar has 8 caves inside that are shaped as arches and these caves store more than 600 buckets. The number 7 cave in the cellar has the oldest buckets and a history of more than a century. These were originally imported from Europe and had been made with ready plunks. There are also huge buckets which are 3.1 meters wide and have a diameter of 2.6 meters.

The Gallery

The museum also showcases the journey of Changyu from being a small wine maker to an internationally recognized brand through videos, old photos and historic models. Inside the museum are twenty five galleries that showcase different aspect of the company. The cellar itself is 100 years old and it tool eleven years to construct. The cellar’s construction was finally finished in the year 1894. Today it is a great place to enjoy some wine, take a tour guide and learn wine tasting. The Number 7 cave also offers a workshop on making your own wine.
