Xinhua Village locates in the northwest of Heqing County, 7 km away from the center of the county and 12 km from the Lijiang airport. The Xinhua Village is a typical one where the Bai people live in a compact community. It has a population of 4,782 in 1,103 doors, of which 98.5% are the Bai ethnic people.
The Xinhua Village is well-known for its beautifully natural environment, local conditions and customs and the unique handicrafts. Its long history of making handicrafts began in the Ming dynasty. Recently on the path of reform, the local people have improved their traditional manufacturing and turned to the pattern in which one village is engaged in a profession and one family in a kind of handcrafts. Following this pattern, more than 100 kinds of their products are sold as far as to countries and regions such as India, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, the United States, Taiwan, Tibet, Sinkiang, Sichuan and Guizhou. There are more than 50% of the villagers are engaged in this industry, making a contribution of more than 17,000,000 yuan RMB per year to the village.
Surrounded by hills and rivers, the Xinhua Village possesses of picturesque scenery with a strong color of the Bai lifestyle. It is a wonderful place for traveling, sightseeing and shopping for the sake of the convenient transportation abundant resources and the integration of rural scenery, dwelling and handcraft-producing.
