Jinghong Airport ranks the second largest, next to Kunming Airport, only 5kilomters away from the city center. It was set up in April, 1990, offering direct flights to Dali, Lijiang, shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin as well as international flights to Bangkok, Qingmai of Thailand and Vientiane and Laos. Flights from around the country can reach Gasha Airport of Xishuangbanna via Kunming. There are at least 2 flights to and fro Kunming and Xishuangbanna every day and as many as 6 to 10 flights in peak period, making it the busiest airline. Every five minutes each day, from 11:10am to 22:10pm, one plane will start the 520 kilometers journey which lasts 45 minutes and charges 520yuan.

Highways

The road transportation in Xishuangbanna is convenient. The national roads 213 and 214 meet here. The roads connect one city and 40 townships. The total traffic mileage is 3670kilomters. Asphalt roads lead to Menghai, Mengla, Damenglong, and Daluo. The traffic mileage from Kunming to Jinghong is 688kilomters.

Besides, visitors to other tourist spots and parks can buy tickets at the bus station. If they don’t get on the bus at the station, they can bargain with the driver for a cheap ticket. The 20 to 24 hours journey costs RMB 100-170 yuan.  The Kunming bus station near the Kunming railway station offers long-distance buses (including sleeping cars) to Jinghong. Travel agencies also provide special cars.

Water Transportation

The Lancang River is the main channel and Jinghong is a first class national  port, making up of three ports :Jinghong,Olive Dam and Guanlei. Up to now, the international water passages have been open to Qingshen of Burma, Vientiane of Laos etc. And the ports of Olive Dam and Guanlei are still under construction. From the north of Jinghong, boats at the Lancangjiang River can take you to Olive Dam. By the way of the Lancangjiang River and the Mekong River visitors can reach Jinghong by boat from all the countries in Southeast Asia.

Buses

Three buses can drive you to all the tourist spots in the city.

Taxis

All the taxies in the urban district are charged by the odometer with the starting fare of 7yuan. If the drivers don’t obey the rule, you may refuse to pay or complain to the company by call.

In the small city it’s a good idea to go sightseeing by bike. All the hotels offer bicycle rental service
