Sweet Potato Cake
Sweet potato cake is a popular snack and a nice gift for friends in Zhanjiang. When making the food, people steam or boil the sweet potato first, peel off and mash up it. Then they mix some starch and hot water into the mashed sweet potato, knead the mixture into some thin flat round wrappers, and put in some stuffing of parched shredded coconut, sesame, peanuts with sugar and candied melon. After that, they put two or three pieces of jackfruit leaves and steam them.
Hedi Fish Head Soup
Tourists should never miss the chance to go to Hedi Reservoir to taste the fresh fish head soup made from the variegated carp that grows in the reservoir. The carp head is big and has a lot of marrow. The carp head soup looks thick and white, and it tastes sweet, fresh and delicious and it doesn’t have any unpleasant fishy smell. It is also said the soup can do good to one’s brain and can prolong life.
The local people also make a snack called Muye Cake by wrapping some sweet or fragrant stuffing into the wrappers made from sticky rice and steaming them. Muye cakes taste sweet, fragrant and delicious.
Oyster is called “milk from the ocean”, and those produced in Zhanjiang is not only delicious but also nutritious. The cooked oyster, a famous dish in Zhanjiang, tastes tender, fresh and delicious.
This kind of snack is made by wrapping some stuffing of shredded coconut and white sugar in the pre-made wrapper made from sticky rice flour and steaming it over big fire. The snack tastes sweet, clear and smooth.
