Stephania erecta is a kind of perennial bald grassy winding liane which grows on the hillside, by the dyke or in the woods. Its cane can be as long as several meters, and the earthnut is like a flat ball. The “ball” is coarse and taupe, and has a yellow and white transect and a red base with dense virescent spots. Stephania erecta is of important use in clinical medicine: iatrical and scientific institutes have distilled Stephania cepharantha Hayata, D-Isocorydine Hydrochloride and Rotundine from it.
