It is also called Chinese chestnut. The tree may be as high as 20 meters. The nut contains rich protein, fat, sugar and starch. It tastes delicious. It is edible either raw or after cooking. The world regards that the “sweet chestnuts” from China are of high nourishment.

Chinese chestnut is produced in all parts of the south and the north of our country. Its main place of origin in Huzhou City is Changxing. Changxing Chinese chestnut is of excellent quality, of which Youguang (Shiny) chestnut is well received by foreign merchants when it is exhibited and sold on the Guangzhou Trade Fair. There are also varieties of Machiqing, Dahongpao(Large Red Robe), Kui (Head) chestnut and Chaguo Chestnut, etc, which are much taken with mass consumers and have become rare products.
