Taizhou is a new seaside city along China’s golden coastline. It lies in the middle coastal area of Zhejiang Province and the furthest south area of Shanghai Economic and Technical Development Zoon. The total area of land is about 9411 square kilometers and the area of sea is about 80,000 square kilometers with the population of 5.46 million, and among them the urban area is 1536 square kilometers with the total population of 1.4 million.
Taizhou is benefited from the mountain and the sea and was called ‘a famous mountain on the sea’ in the history. It is one of the main producing places of grain in Zhejiang Province and is also the first place in China with the per Mu yield of rice beyond one thousand kilogram. It is also a main fruit producing area in China and the famous Huangyan orange and Yuhuanwendan are well known both at home and abroad. Meanwhile it is also one of the main fishing areas in China with the broad and rich East China Sea Fishery and its fishery products are the largest among all the fisheries in Zhejiang Province.
In 2000, Taizhou was appointed to be a prosperous, civilized and beautiful modern port city.
