Dinghai Ancient City

The ancient historic and cultural city, Dinghai, is a thousand-year-old ancient city with a long history and a large number of historic sites. There are historic streets of the Ming and Qing Dynasties preserved in the ancient city, such as Middle Street, West Street, East Street, Chaishui Lane and Liufang Road, etc. The Zuyin Temple, which was built in the fifth year of Tianfu Period in the Post-Jin Dynasty, is reputed as “the first ancient Buddhist Temple in Wengzhou”. The building has carved dragons and painted phoenix, which are ingeniously and delicately wrought. It covers an area of more than 5000 square meters. It is a Buddhist site where believers make a pilgrimage to the Putuoshan Mountain. The imperial book collection tower, which was built in the 28^th year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty, is exquisitely carved and finely constructed in unique style. The tower has graceful environment with thick shades shutting the sun out around it. It also treasures up cultural relics such as the tablet of “Dinghai Mountain” inscribed by Emperor Kangxi and the portrait of Kangxi. Dinghai has been a military fortress all through the ages. Apart from the famous Opium War, it has also a set of historic relics of fighting against Japanese and Qing troops. Dinghai gathers together a group of talented people. It is the hometown of Qiaoshi, the former head of the Committee of National People’s Congress, An Zijie, the deceased vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Ding Guangxun, the vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Dong Jianhua, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Nearly one hundred famous people have emerged in the history, such as Zhu Baoshan, Liu Hongsheng and Dong Haosheng. There are also a large number of historic relics about them left in the city.
