The Stone Forest, Green Lake Park

the stone forest

The Stone Forest : The Stone Forest is a breathtaking natural phenomena featuring unusually shaped karst landscapes, which were formed by the continuous movement of the Earth for millions of years.  Hidden away 90 kilometers to the southeast of Kunming, the forest is known for its spectacular scenery and for the unique folk customs of the Sani people, who still dwell there. The Sani culture can therefore be heavily felt there; while there, you can buy colorful embroidery and watch minority dances in the midst of a captivating natural environment.

Green Lake Park: The Green Lake Park is a beautiful park located in downtown Kunming. Its convenient location just opposite Yunnan University makes it one of the most easily accessible attractions in the city. Its centerpiece is definitely the Green Lake, which branches out into nine springs in the north. Due to this, the lake was also called ‘Nine Dragon Pond’ in olden times. While in the park, you can enjoy local Taiji, Majion, and operatic performances or simply take in the scenery and take a leisurely walk. If you visit in November and December, you might also catch huge flocks of gulls migrating towards the area from Siberia.

Lunch at local restaurant.

Kunming Departure

The Dragon Gate on Xishan, Yuantong Temple, Hotel to airport Transfer (Kunming)

The Dragon Gate: The Dragon Gate, located in Xishan or theWest Hill, is a famous Taoist site located near the Dianchi Lake and lying just 37 kilometers to the west of the Kunming city center. The structure, which was merely hacked off a cliff, was constructed between 1781 and 1835. Nowadays, many tourists visit it to see the fantastic group of hand-carved grottoes and sculptures as well as the pavilions and the corridors, all of which were diligently built by Taoist monks.

Yuantong Temple (60 minutes): Boasting of more than 1,200 years of history behind it, the Yuantong Temple is considered as one of the key Buddhist temples in China, as listed by the State Council. Known as the largest temple in the Kunming area, it was the site of the grand ceremony for the greeting and consecration of Buddha’s tooth held back in 1956.
