  1. Can I fly to Chengdu?

Most major cities in China have flights to Chengdu. The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the busiest airport in mid west China and the 6th busiest in China. It is also an important transit point to Lhasa and is the only transit airport connection to Changdu Bangda Airport and Linzhi Milin Airport.

2. How to go to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport from Chengdu?
There are expressway and highway connections from Chengdu as well as buses, airport buses and taxis.

Airport bus:
There is an airport bus departing the Minshan Restaurant to the airport every 10 minutes.  Each bus departs once it is full.  Airport bus routes and stops:
Lantian Hotel (near Southwest Aviation ticket office) on Renmin South Road,  Minshan Restaurant, Jingjiang Hotel, West China Centre of Medical Sciences, Sichuan University, Provincial Stadium, and Rennan Overpass (expressway).

Taxi service to the airport
From Chengdu central area to the airport the cost is about 70 yuan and another 10 yuan for road tolls. It is about a half an hour ride to the airport.  From the airport to Chengdu central area need no road tolls are charged.

Subway 10 to the airport will be in operation in the near future.

3.Is Chengdu serviced by train?

There are 2 passenger train stations in Chengdu: Chengdu North Railway Station and Chengdu East Railway Station. There is more traffic through Chengdu North Railway Station than Chengdu East Railway Station. Chengdu North Railway Station is also called Chengdu Railway Station which is the terminal for high speed trains from most major cities.

 

4.How to go to Chengdu (North) Railway Station?

 Chengdu North Railway Station (Chengdu Railway Station) is accessible by public buses. Take bus No. 16, 24, 27, 28, 2, 303, 308, 34, 401, 402, 412, 44, 503A, 511, 52, 54, 55, 57, 59, 64, 65, 70, 802, 80,83, 85, 99 and 9.  


5.How to go to Chengdu central area from Chengdu International Shuangliu Airport?

 Visitors can take an airport bus, public bus and or taxi.

There are airport buses waiting stationed in front of Gate 2 of Airport Terminal 1 and Gates 4 and 5 of Airport Terminal 2.

6. Shu brocade, Shu embroideries, Qingcheng silk blankets, bamboo weavings and gold and silver articles are the most popular souvenirs among visitors.
Shu brocade is one of the four most famous brocades.  The other three are Yun brocade of Nanjing, Song brocade of Suzhou, and Zhuang brocade of Guangxi.
Brocade has a history of more than 2,000 years.  It is soft, durable and the colours are vivid. 
Shu embroidery is a traditional handicraft that requires special weaving skills. It is also one of the four most famous embroideries in China〔The other three are Suzhou embroidery, Hunan embroidery and Yue (Guangdong) embroidery.〕It is typically done on soft satin fabric and uses brightly coloured threads, evenly stitched to produce a delicate picture or pattern.  It is particularly characterized by the closeness of its stitching, which enables Shu embroiderers to highlight miniscule details in the subjects they produce.  A Shu embroidered piece may include hundreds of thousands of stitches in a single figure or animal, and may take many days or even weeks to complete.  One of the most popular subjects for Shu embroiderers is the panda, but scenes of nature of any kind are common. 

Qingcheng silk blankets made from raw silk and spun silk is a handicraft article which is hand-knitted according to the traditional processing technology.  With a rich array of silk blanket styles, they are an excellent tourist souvenir.

With a long history of producing gold and silver articles, Chengdu is one of the major traditional gold and silver ornament producing areas in China.

The abundance of raw lacquer and bright cinnabar produced in Sichuan are the key materials to produce lacquerware which makes Sichuan the major lacquerware centre.

Bamboo weaving is a traditional and applied craftwork. Among the many bamboo products are baskets, bowls, benches, chairs, fans, lamps, boxes, and hanging baskets.   

7.  Where to buy Chengdu souvenirs and local Chengdu products?

Visitors can buy souvenirs and local products in the ancient streets and the modern streets in Chengdu.

Chicony Plaza (Chunxi Road)
It is an attractive shopping centre with an endless varity of goods to choose from. Chunxi Road is similar to Nanjing Road in Shanghai.

Chunxi Street is in the centre of Chengdu near Tianfu Square. Visitors can take subway line 2, public bus 55, 43 and 47 to Chunxi street.

Wide and Narrow Street
This is a historical place composed of Wide Street, Narrow Street and Jing Alley. There are numerous souvenirs shops, tea shops, restaurants and cafes. Here visitors can see the famous local opera and face changing.  It is recommended to stroll along this street at night to feel and get immersed in the atmosphere of old Chengdu.

It is in the centre of Chengdu and 1.4 kilometers northwest of Tianfu Square. Take subway line 2 to Renmin Park Station and then exit from D3,  walk along Shangshunshang Street about 500 metres to Wide and Narrow Street.

8.When is the best time to visit Chengdu?

The best time to visit Chengdu  is from March to June and from late September to November.   If visitors want to avoid the summer heat, a visit Jiuzhaigou in July and August is a good option.

9.  How should I prepare to visit Chengdu?
In the spring, flowers are open in bloom everywhere in Chengdu. Visitors are allergic with allergies to flowers should avoid this season. Pack light sweaters, long-sleeved coats, trousers and an umbrella.

Early summer is very pleasant, warm but not too hot. T-shirts and trousers, sun glasses, sun screen and parasols are suggested.
Autumn are is also an ideal time to visit Chengdu as when it is cool but comfortable.  The scenery is special in some scenic areas like, such as Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. There is a large temperature difference between day and night. Long sleeve shirts, trousers and coats are recommended.
Winter in Chengdu is humid and cold and insulated jackets and warm shoes are recommended.
