Official China Public Holidays 2012 Announced

Earlier this month, the States Council of PR. China has officially announced the detailed schedules for the 2012 China public holidays.

Chinese people usually enjoys seven public holidays in a year, including the International New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Qingming Festival, International Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-autumn Festival and the National Day of China. But in 2012, there will be only six public holidays, because the mid-autumn festival holiday will be combined with the national day holiday, and there will be an eight-day-long holiday.

The following table is the official schedule for China public holidays 2012:

Chinese New Year Jan.23,2012 Jan.22-Jan.28 7 days There are only seven days for the public holiday, but usually Chinese people celebrates Chinese new year for 15 days. In 2012, it will be celebrated from January 22,2012 (Chinese New Year's Eve) to February 2,2012 (Lantern Festival)
Qingming Festival Apr.4,2012 Apr.2-Apr.4 3 days It is one of the 24 Chinese solar terms, and also a festival for Chinese people to commemorate the dead.
Labor Day May 1,2012 Apr.29-May 1 3 days It is a celebration of the International Labor Day in China.
Dragon Boat Festival Jun.23,2012 Jun.22-Jun.24 3 days It is a traditional festival for dragon boat racing and eating rice-dumplings(zong zi).
Mid-autumn Festival Sept.30,2012 Sept.30-Oct. 7 8 days A traditional festival for people to get together with their families, appreciating the full moon and eating delicious mooncakes.
National Holiday Oct.1,2012 The cerebration on the founding of new P.R. China.
