Xian Travel in Four Seasons

As a famous ancient capital of China, Xian is the cradle of Chinese civilization and the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, which served as the capitals of the Zhou (1046 B.C. -221 B.C.), the Qin (221 B.C. -206 B.C.), the Han (206 B.C. -220), the Sui (581 -618) and the Tang (618 -907) Empires in history, and it’s very rich in natural scenery and cultural relics, highlighted by Hua Mountain, the Terracotta Army and the Greater Wild Goose Pagoda.
Xian has a semi-humid climate with clearly distinctive four seasons, which features a warm spring and a cool autumn, a hot summer and a cold winter, and its rich and colorful tourist resources enable it to become a hot tourist destination for visitors from all over the world throughout the year.

Spring in Xian

Spring is a romantic season in the ancient Xian city, when everything is at its best, and it’s a good time for the photographers to explore the true color of spring. As for visitors, it’s a good idea for you to appreciate cherry blossoms in the Green Dragon Temple (Qinglong Temple) and rape flowers in Hanzhong.

The Green Dragon Temple

The Green Dragon Temple is a Buddhist Temple built in the Sui dynasty (581 -618), which attracts visitors for its profound religious atmosphere and florid cherry blossoms, and over 1,000 cherry trees are introduced to the temple from Japan. The cherry blossoms in temple are in full bloom in spring, and the best times to appreciate them are from March 20 to April 20 each year.

Appreciating Rape Flowers at Hanzhong

Serving as a strategic city during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. -220) and the Three Kingdoms Period (220 -280), Hanzhong is the source of the Han River with Qinling Mountains to the north and Baishan Mountains to the south, and it’s an inspiring a place producing outstanding people, which is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and profound human heritages.

Hanzhong has distinctive four seasons, which is also an ideal habitat of various rare animals such as pandas and ibises. Hanzhong is highlighted by the blooming rape flowers in spring, attracting thousands of visitors to come out of respect for its fame.

Summer in Xian

Summer is rather hot in Xian, but it’s rather cool in the morning and at dusk, so it has become a custom for the locals to visit the Hui Quarter to taste the authentic Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup and Marinated Meat in Baked Bun. As for the aliens, you’re advised to go rafting on the Danjiang River, explore the beauty of the Golden Silk (Jinsi) Grand Canyon and visit the Greater Wild Goose Pagoda in summer.

Rafting on the Danjiang River

Rafting on the Danjiang River is very popular among the locals and foreigners alike in Dafeng County each summer. The classic eight -kilometer (five -mile) long route starts at Xu Xiake Embarking Site and ends at the Moon Sun Shoal, along which you can appreciate the Qing-era guild halls, the verdant peaks, the dragon’s pool and the cascading waterfalls, highlighted by the Golden Rooster Pass (Jinjiguan Pass) and the Turtle Drinking Water, and you can also see the idyllic villages and buffaloes along the banks.

Jinsi Grand Valley

With 20.5 kilometers (12.7 miles) long and 10 meters (33 feet) deep, Jinsi Grand Valley Scenic Area perfectly combines the beauty of peaks, caves, forests, springs, waterfalls and ponds as one, and it consists of White Dragon Valley, Black Dragon Valley, Green Dragon Valley and Shiyan Village. The highlighted scenic spots of the scenic area are the White Dragon Gate, the Crescent Valley, A Thread of Sky and the Lotus Cave. It’s an ideal place to escape summer heat as well.

Greater Wild Goose Pagoda

The 65-meter (213 feet) tall pagoda is brick-wood-structured, and it is composed of the pedestal, the body and the spire, which has become the symbol of ancient Xian city.

The pagoda was built in the 3rd year of the Yonghui Period of the Tang dynasty (618 -907), where the Buddhist scriptures brought by the high-learnt monk Xuan Zang from India are still well-preserved. On the second story of the pagoda the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined.

Autumn in Xian

Autumn is rather cool in Xian, which is very ideal for climbing the mountains. On a rainy day in autumn, it’s very suitable for visiting some indoor cultural relics. In autumn, the highly recommended places of interest of Xian are Hua Mountain, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses and Shaanxi History Museum.

Hua Mountain

Hua Mountain has an altitude of 2,155 meters (7,070 feet) high above the sea level, which is dotted with temples, pavilions and terraces and pine trees, and it boasts of being the most magnificent one of its kind in China.
Hua Mountain highlights the cliffs on the west peak, the rising sun from the east peak, the unique pine trees on the south peak and the clouds and mists on the north peak, where the famous scenic spots include the Golden Toad Playing with a Turtle, the Iron Bull Terrace, Green Dragon's Back and Star Picking Stone.

Terracotta Warriors and Horses

Boasting the largest underground military museum in China, Xian Terracotta Warriors and Horses have a substantial influence in the world for their magnificent style, which have produced a sensational effect upon their appearance and are praised as the 8th wonder of the world.

The Terracotta Warriors and Horses Scenic Area is composed of three pits, where over 8,000 pieces of terracotta warriors and horse are preserved, and they’re arranged in a military formation, fully showing the mighty military force of the Qin Empire (221 B.C. -206 B.C.).

Shaanxi History Museum

As a national-level comprehensive museum in Xian, Shaanxi History Museum is an art gallery displaying history and culture of Shaanxi Province in a systematical manner. Over 370,000 pieces of cultural relics are retained in the museum, most of which are from the Han (206 B.C. -220) and the Tang (618 -907) dynasties.

Shaanxi History Museum is a magnet for visitors who are interested in ancient Chinese history, whose collections are classified into eight groups, Bronze Wares, Grave Frescos of the Tang Dynasty (618 -907), Pottery Figurines from Various Dynasties, Porcelains from Various Dynasties, Building Materials from Various Dynasty, Bronze Mirrors of the Han (206 B.C. -220) and the Tang (618 -907) Dynasties, Silver and Gold and Jade Wares, Coins from Various Dynasties.

Winter in Xian

The weather of Xian is rather cold in winter, but it’s the best time for visitors to take a bath in hot springs and go skiing. You’re highly advised to take a hot spring bath in Tangyu Town of Lantian and go skiing in Taibai Mountain Ski Resort during your Xian travel in winter.

Tangyu Hot Spring

Tangyu Hot Spring has a long history, which originated in the Han dynasty (206 B.C. -220) and reached its heyday in the Tang dynasty (618 -907), and it served only for the emperors and their concubines in the Tang dynasty (618 -907).

Tangyu Hot Spring is clear and warm, whose temperature remains at about 65℃. It’s very rich in materials such as silicon, potassium, calcium, sodium, fluorine, chlorine and bromine, which are beneficial a lot to human bodies.

Taibai Mountain Ski Resort

Surrounded by mountains, Taibai Mountain Ski Resort is the largest one of its kind in Xian, where the advanced snowmakers and snow scooters are introduced from the U.S. and Canada, and it has eight pistes for various levels of skiers.

Taibai Mountain Ski Resort is really a wonderful place for skiers, where the main entertaining programs include riding snow scooters and bikes, playing football on the snow ground and pulling snow sleighs.
