1. House of Shambhala (4-star)

The House of Shambhala is the perfect place to escape from all the noise of the city. This hotel is tucked away at the alley of Barkhor like a hidden gem thanks to its unique architecture and its lovely courtyards. Since it is centrally-located, the Jokhang Temple and the Potala Palace can be easily reached. The interiors are strongly Chinese in influence, with the upper flowers enjoying most of the sunshine. Their restaurant serves the best chicken tikka in Tibet, and modern room amenities are available like air conditioning, electronic locks, and broadband Internet. There is also a business center in the hotel.

2.Dhood Gu Hotel, Lhasa (3-star)

This is one of the most beautiful traditional Tibetan hotels in the city. The beddings and interiors make guests feel like they’ve travelled back in time and are lodging in a traditional palace. However, modern amenities marry culture in this hotel. Each room also has a satellite TV, air conditioning, and an IDD-capable telephone. There is also a business center and conference rooms for guests who like to mix business with the pleasure of experiencing Tibetan culture. If you plan to experience the whole city on foot, you can easily do so because it only a short distance away from the Jokhang Temple and other significant Tibetan monasteries. 3.Tibet Gorkha Hotel, Lhasa (3-star)

Aside from its strongly Tibetan architecture, the Tibet Gorkha Hotel was also the Consulate General of Nepal. From the rooftop, guests can enjoy an unprecedented bird’s eye view of Tibet’s main attractions namely the Jokhang Temple and the Potala Palace. Both can be easily reached on wheels. Since it is at the center of the city, it is closer to the railway (15km) than the airport (50km). This can be a good thing for adventurous travelers as it makes explorations much easier. Internet access is free in public places and the rooms are air conditioned. Heated bathwater is also available.

4.Jardin Secret Hotel, Lhasa (4-star)

While it’s still steeped in Tibetan influence, this is one of the more modern hotels in Lhasa. It is very close to the Tibet Museum, the Nechung Monastery and the Norbulingka. There are 192 rooms for guests to choose from each with air conditioning, a flat screen TV, a safe, and complimentary high speed Internet access. The rooms are spacious and look out to downtown Tibet. Guests also get free town car service, depending on their accommodation packages.

5.Yabshi Phunkang Heritage Hotel, Lhasa

More of a mansion than a modern hotel the Yabshi Phunkang Heritage Hotel sits right at the heart of the old Lhasa city. Guests get to enjoy beautiful, sprawling gardens and charming bedrooms that that distinctly Tibetan. If you’re coming here during the winter, you might be a bit alarmed to find that it is not centrally heated. However, space heaters and electric mattresses are provided for. This hotel is also lauded for its food.

6.Kyichu Hotel (Jiqu Fandian), Lhasa

The Kyichu Hotel sits very close to the Kyichu River where it got its name. This means river of happiness, and the hotel does keep guests happy with its view of Tibet’s landscape, and a view of the river as well. It is also conveniently situated between the Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple. The setup is cozy because there are only 52, well-kept and traditionally designed guest rooms. The staff speaks English, and you can expect only the best Tibetan hospitality. This hotel is best for guests who are looking to spend a quiet, meditative time in Tibet.

7.Four Points by Sheraton, Lhasa

Sitting close to the Lhasa River, this hotel is only a ten-minute walk to the Jokhang Temple. You may need to take the car if you want to reach the Barkhorn Street. This hotel is family friendly, offering babysitting services to couples who would like to enjoy Tibet way past the kids’ bedtime. There are also in-room spa and massage treatments, and free high speed Internet access for those who are mixing work with pleasure. 8.Tibet Hotel

Centrally located, Tibet Hotel in Lhasa provides top notch service to its guests. The rooms are minimalist traditional but sophisticated, and the food it excellent. It is also marketed mostly as a business hotel because of its value for money and excellent business amenities. It is also close to the airport. The Tibet Hotel’s rooms are all air conditioned with a mini-bar and all the conveniences one would expect from a four-star hotel.

9.Thangka Hotel

This hotel enjoys the prime location of being just behind the Jhokang Hotel which could be a good thing if the guest is in Tibet for the pilgrimage. The surroundings are very religious, and it’s also right at the heart of downtown Tibet. It’s the sort of hotel  one would go to if s/he would like to “do as the locals do”. Public areas have WIFI Internet, while rooms have paid Internet connection. Each room has a satellite TV, air conditioning, and IDD-capable landlines. The interiors are expectedly traditional Tibetan.

10.Lhasa Brahmaputra Grand Hotel

This five star hotel marries the Tibetan culture with modern conveniences. The architecture of the building itself reeks of Tibetan history, and the hotel also houses a highly celebrated museum.
