An increasing number of travelers from all over the world have been heading to China for their travels and holidays. China is increasingly becoming the top travel destination in the world. Needless to say, there are a host of different reasons for its popularity as a top tourist destination. China is among the largest countries in the world. With its long history and rich culture, tourists are welcomed with an avalanche of ancient historical sites, cultural villages, strong traditions mixed with a modern flair.

With so many places to visit, it tends to be overwhelming. With that saying, the following would be a guide to some of the top destinations to visit in China.

The Great Wall of China

Among the most recognizable attraction in China and a favorite among tourists.  Built over 2,000 years during the Warring States era, it was among one of the few man-made items that could be seen from space and one of the longest defense walls built. It is one of the attractions that is a must-visit if the opportunity presents itself.

Potala Palace -

The palace was constructed in the 7th Century by Songtsten Gampo and has since been the destination of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.  Renowned to be a holy and sacred place, the Potala Palace is none other than the leader of Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhism leader.  Tourists will be able to witness a strong evidence of Tibetan culture, heritage and a long line of history in the Red Mountains, Lhasa, Tibet in China. 

The Temple of Heaven

Located in Beijing, the Temple of heaven made its way into the world's list of heritage sites since 1998. Constructed in 1420 as a venue to make offerings to the gods, it is among China's main attractions today and a stellar example of fine architecture with an artistic touch. The temple has served to be the benchmark for structures employing intricate architecture all over the world. 

TerraCotta Army

The Terracotta Army, ordered to be constructed by Emperor Qin Shihuang in order to protect his tomb after his passing more than 2000 years ago, is one of the main attractions in Xi'an. Although constructed in ancient times, the site was only stumbled upon by locals in 1974. There are three vaults in total of various sizes showcasing the army in various sizes and materials.

The Forbidden City

Another famous landmark and tourist attraction in the Chinese capital city of Beijing, the Forbidden City is believed to be the palace of the Qing and Ming Dynasties. It is known to be the largest palace in China and consists of thousands of towers and rooms featuring interesting architecture and traces of Chinese history and culture. It took a total of 14 years for the construction to be completed and remains one of the most visited attractions in China.

Yellow Mountain-

Visitors and travelers from all over the world flock to southern Anhui to visit Yellow Mountain, a renowned World and Cultural heritage site. The beauty, grace and scenic mountain tops include the likes of the Bright Summit Peak, Tiandu Peak and Lotus Peak One and other breathtaking spots such as pine forests, hot springs and interesting stone formations. The Yellow Mountain's fame can be witnessed through its portrayal in thousand of poems, paintings and books.
