One of the most popular places to visit in Chongqing is the Three Gorges Museum. Just seeing its overpowering structure is enough proof that this place is one of the must-see places in China.

Seeing where the Three Gorges Museum is would not be a problem because its building serves as one of the most noticeable landmarks in Chongqing. In fact, it is recognized as the largest monographic museum. Aside from that, this is also right across the People’s Hall.

There are four major themes in the Three Gorges Museum. These are The Splendid Three Gorges, The Very Ancient Ba Yu, The Urban Development of Chongqing and The Anti-Japanese Days. These four themes are characterized by the antique art pieces which are part of the arranged exhibits. The art pieces are made of various medium and reflect much of China’s traditional culture.


Though these four themes are primarily reflective of ancient China, there are also items which showcase the modern transition that happened in this wonderful place. For example, there are exhibits which illustrate the development of roads in Chongqing City, particularly when the 20th century came in.

For those who are visiting the museum, it is also great to pay close attention to the six different themed displays. These are the Paintings and Calligraphies through the Ages, Porcelains of Various Dynasties and Coins of Various Dynasties, Sculptures of the Han Dynasty, Folk Customs of the People of Southwest China, Cultural Relics Donated by Li Chuli and Sculptures of the Han Dynasty.

 Free entrance but number of guests is limited only to 5,000 per day.

More Tips:

 Allocate at least an entire day for the Three Gorges Museum so that ample time can be spent on each section. It is best to start early in the morning too because there is a limit to the number of visitors.
