Bullfighting of Dong Ehtnic Group

Dong people enjoy bullfighting, so all the villages raise buffaloes which are good fighters. The festival is celebrated on Hai day in the eight or ninth months, the exact date of which varies from year to year [The traditional Chinese way of designating years, months, days and hours was to use a system of combining one of the 10 Heavenly Stems (Tian Gan) and one of the 12 Earthly Branches (Di Zhi)to form 60 unique pairs in a complete cycle. Hai is the last of the 12 Earthly Branches]. Before this, they will invite their opponents, and then fights are arranged between bulls. This is a truly unique event to see.

Bullfighting of Miao Ethnic People

Miao ethnic group has developed a special passion toward water buffalo in the history of farming-water buffalo were proved efficient in the plough or other filed work from ancient time and have owned their important role in farming activities. The Miao people living in the southeastern part of southwest China’s Guizhou respect and love water buffalo which is marked by a head of buffalo with a horn hanging high up at the entrance gate to each Miao village. Miao love bull fighting, by means of which they show their love and revere.

In Miao villages, there are exclusively fighting bulls-bulls raised for the purpose of taking part in the fighting competition.

When the bullfighting festival comes become the competition takes place, the owners will feed their bulls with glutinous rice and sometimes they even sever them one or two liang alcohol Hundreds of other bulls( the bulls will come take part in the event) will be herded to the fighting venue to watch the event and at the same time encourage their hero in the stage. The bull gain the first, second and third places will be awarded by a banner.

The festival usually lasts for 3-5 days.
