    The Most Famous Monkey

    Monkey King (Sun Wukong) is a main character in the Chinese classical novel, Journey to the West. The novel is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature and was written in the 16th century. 

    Sun Wukong is a monkey that was born from a stone. After rebelling against heaven and being imprisoned under Five Finger Mountain, he is rescued by a monk from the Tang Dynasty, Xuanzang. He accompanies and protects Xuanzang on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India.

    Monkey King possesses immense strength, like being able to lift his staff of 17,550 pounds easily, knows 72 transformations, which allow him to transform into various animals and objects, and can freeze humans and demons.

    This character has been adapted many times in modern film, comics, stage, and television, not only in China but all over the world.
