Mengdong River Scenic Spot is bounded by Zhangjiajie, the first National Forest Park in China, and Tianzi Mountain, a famous scenic spot. It is a newly opened up tourist attraction that gathers mountain terrain, water color, cavity scenery, and living beings in one place, and combines features of ancient town, national customs and mountain and rustic appeals in one body.

Mengdong River Scenic Spot is made up of four parts, Wangcun , Mengdong River, Bu’er Door, and Laosi City. These four sceneries interlock and with individual features. The ancient Wangcun Town is the site of Youyang City in Qin and Han Dynasties, the door of waterway travel of Mengdong River, and the south gate of Mengdong River Scenic Spot. Here, the transportations of railway, waterway, and highway are convenient.

Furong Town is originally named Wangcun. It is an ancient town where Tujiazu people live together. Until now, in the town, pavement laid with black flagstones and ancient domestic house ( mainly Diaojiaolou ) are well preserved. The famous movie Furong Town directed by Xiejin is shot here. At Furong Town, you must take the local specialty, “rice tofu.”It is said that the most genuine shop is in the vicinity of torii. That shop is the rice tofu shop in the movie.

The scenery in the town has unique bearing. Shops with trap doors are on the both sides of five-mile street of black flagstone. Tujia Diaojiaolou are set up against the slope. The simple bearing of Tujiazu is very charming. In the Warring States Period, “Xizhou Copper Pillar” set as a war covenant made between the emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman remains as before. On “Xizhou Copper Pillar”, key cultural relic under state protection, more than 2300 characters are inscribed, the covenant of dismissing troops and reconciling made between the emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman in 940 A.D. is recorded. It is a precious object data of studying nation relation in ancient China.

Besides, there is Wangcun waterfall which is about 60 meters high and 70 meters wide here. Walking behind the hanging screen of the waterfall is like placing oneself in a crystal palace.

The high mountains and deep valleys of Mengdong River are peculiar and severely beautiful. Its flying waterfall and running spring are mystical and unfathomable, and its cliff and cavity are exquisite and magnificent. The famous “peerless drift current ”is here. A little boat drifting down the water is found between bottom of the valley and top of the wave. It may fight against the wave and sandy beach, or play with the water. It is surprising but not dangerous. We may describe this in sentences, “smart boat gets out from precipice and the glittering water stirs the nineth heaven.”

Buer Door is known for its peculiar stone forest and inscriptions, temples and pavilions with upturned eave and raised head, and primitive and simple folklore and customs. The magnificent palace, crisscrossed cobblestone street, and the incalculable ancient tomb and torii of Laosicheng, the old capital of the king of headman, make people forget to leave and acclaim its uniqueness.
