Juzi Island

Written by Vivian Updated Jul. 27, 2021

Juzi (means orange) Island in the Xiangjiang River formed in 305 AD, covered by the flourished and aged trees. The name of the island was derived from a famous poem by Chairman Mao Zedong, also well-known for its product, the orange.

It absolutely looks like a large green vessel, sailing in the center of Xiangjiang River with 5 km long and 45-200km wide, which connects the Mountain Yuelu and the downtown. The island is a famous and the longest inland river island in China. The island is a popular site for summer resorts as there is no hot weather even from May to July. Now, the island is becoming a park, where the majority of the residents, the orange trees, offer the visitors their sweet fruit in every harvest season.

There are swimming beaches on both sides of the island, and the local government has made a great effort on integrating traveling, entertainment, sports, culture, and commerce into the island. In the next years, the area will be divided into Two Corridors and Seven Gardens: Hunan Culture Corridor, On-water Amusement Corridor, Orange Garden, Garden of Nature, Park of Harmonious Guests, Plaza of Shopping and Foods, GYM Center, Relaxation Resort, and Wildlife Park.

How to Get There?

Take the No. 1 bus to Dachun Bridge, where located Changsha First Normal School is. Then walk to the bank to catch a ferry to the island. Or you can also take the No. 16 public bus to reach there directly.
