Tour Itinerary

DAY 1 Chengdu to Mount Siguniang via Wolong Panda Base
  • Mount Siguniang Hotel3-star hotel
  • Lunch

Your private guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel in Chengdu at the agreed time. If you would like to start the tour from Chengdu airport or a train station, please let your travel advisor know in advance.

After leaving Chengdu, drive about 100 km, taking around 2 hours, to reach Wolong Panda Base, a major giant panda conservation and research center set in the mountains of western Sichuan. Compared with the panda base in Chengdu, Wolong offers a more natural and peaceful setting, making it a perfect stop on the way from Chengdu to Mount Siguniang.

For panda lovers, Wolong Shenshuping Panda Base is a special place to see giant pandas in a beautiful mountain environment. It is also home to some of China’s famous “returnee pandas” — pandas born overseas that have returned to China. Thanks to the cooler mountain climate and quieter surroundings, the pandas here are often more active, and the overall experience feels more relaxed and natural than in busier panda parks.

After visiting Wolong Panda Base, continue the journey for another 100 km, about 2 hours, to Mount Siguniang Town. Upon arrival, check in at a comfortable local hotel and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this small mountain town.

Note: Mount Siguniang is located in a remote mountainous area, where hotel options are limited, and facilities are simpler than in major cities. We will arrange your stay at Mount Siguniang Hotel, one of the better hotels in town, offering a comfortable local standard close to a four-star hotel.

DAY 2 Light Hiking in Changping Valley
  • Mount Siguniang Hotel3-star hotel
  • Breakfast

After breakfast, your guide will take you to Changping Valley, one of the most pristine valleys in the Mount Siguniang Scenic Area. Known for its alpine forests, streams, snow mountain views, and hiking trails, it is a wonderful place to enjoy a flexible soft-adventure day.

From the entrance, take a sightseeing bus to the Lama Temple, the starting point of today’s walk. This old temple area also offers a beautiful view of Mount Siguniang. From here, you may hike deeper into the valley, passing scenic spots such as Kushutan, Ganhaizi, Red Stone Beach, and Muluozi, depending on your pace and physical condition.

Along the trail, you will walk through ancient cypress and pine forests, cross peaceful streams, and enjoy views of snow-capped peaks appearing through the trees. Kushutan is known for its dead trees standing in the riverbed against a dramatic mountain backdrop, while Ganhaizi offers open views of the surrounding peaks. If you continue to Muluozi, you will reach a broad alpine meadow facing Yaomei Peak, the highest and most iconic peak of Mount Siguniang.

The one-way hike from Lama Temple to Muluozi is about 11 km, rising from around 3,300 meters to about 3,760 meters above sea level. A full round-trip hike is about 22 km and usually takes 6 to 9 hours. You do not need to complete the entire route. As this is a private tour, the walking distance can be adjusted according to your energy level, and you may turn back earlier if needed. Horse riding is also available in the valley at your own expense, subject to local availability.

Note: There are very limited food options inside Changping Valley. Your guide will remind you to prepare simple, packed food or snacks in advance for lunch during the hike.

DAY 3 Shuangqiao Valley Scenic Tour and Return to Chengdu
  • Breakfast

After breakfast, your guide will take you to Shuangqiao Valley, another beautiful valley in the Mount Siguniang Scenic Area. Among the three main valleys of Mount Siguniang, Shuangqiao Valley is the most developed and the easiest to visit. Most of the sightseeing is done by shuttle bus, making it suitable for travelers of all ages and fitness levels.

At the entrance of the scenic area, board the shuttle bus and ride all the way to the final stop, Redwood Forest, which takes about 40 minutes. From there, you will explore the valley in reverse order, taking the shuttle bus from one scenic stop to the next on the way back.

Shuangqiao Valley offers some of the most accessible alpine scenery in Mount Siguniang. Along the route, you will see snow-capped peaks, forests, open meadows, clear streams, alpine lakes, white stupas, prayer flags, and grazing yaks. Highlights may include Redwood Forest, Potala Peak, Sigunacuo Lake, Nianyuba, and Renshenguoping Meadow. Each stop shows a different side of the valley, from panoramic mountain views and peaceful lake reflections to boardwalk walks through meadows and streams.

If you are interested, you may also try a gentle seasonal rafting experience along the stream at Nianyuba, at your own expense and subject to weather and local availability. If not, you can simply enjoy a relaxed walk along the wooden boardwalk and take in the surrounding mountain scenery.

After visiting Shuangqiao Valley, drive back to Chengdu, which takes about 4 hours. Along the way, you may stop at Maobiliang Viewpoint, one of the best viewpoints for admiring all four peaks of Mount Siguniang. If the weather and timing are right, you may even see the snow-capped peaks glowing beautifully in the golden light.
