Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG)

The Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the main airport that serves Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province in China. In 2010, the airport handled 12,530,515 million passengers, making it the 13th busiest airport in China in terms of passenger traffic. It has achieved a major feat over the years since its operations began back in 1997, after two years of construction.

The airport currently has a 3600-meter-long runway and can handle several flights. Thus, the airport is considered as a backup for Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Location and Distance

The Nanjing Lukou International Airport is located in the suburban area of Jiangning District. It is over 35 kilometers to the south of the downtown area of Nanjing.

The Nanjing Lukou International Airport is the focus city for China Eastern Airlines. All flights operate from one passenger terminal and one runway, while plans for a second passenger terminal and a second runway are still in the works. The expansion, which will be called Phase 2, is expected to be completed by 2013. It is expected to raise the capacity of the airport from 12 million annually to 30 million by the year 2020.
