Qinhuai River

Written by Vivian Updated Jun. 22, 2021

As one of the branches of Yangtze River, Qinhuai River is the mother river of Nanjing. The river is divided into two branches by the Tongji Gate. One is the inner river that flows into the Nanjing city and the other is the outer river which is regarded as the city moat.

There are many sites of interest along the banks of the Qinhuai River, including the Confucius Temple, the Zhanyuan Garden and the Zhonghua Gate, along with countless sights along the Taoye Ferry ride to Zhenhuai Bridge. Seeing from history, where there is a river, there is a culture. The river always brings in outside economic communication and culture. Nanjing is with no exception.

The scenery along the river has a taste of history. The scenery along the river includes the Bailu Zhou Islet Park, Zhanyuan Garden, Confucius Temple,  Zhonghua Gate and characteristic boats on the Qinhuai River from the section of Taoyedu to Zhenhuai Bridge. Among them, the painted boat from which lanterns hang is the most charming and attractive that adds a festive feeling to the river in the evening.
