The Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the main international airport in Shanghai, China. Due to the strategic location of Shanghai, the airport is considered a major aviation hub in Asia. The Pudong airport serves both domestic and international flights, whereas the other airport in Shanghai, Hongqiao, serves mainly domestic flights.
The Shanghai Pudong International Airport is located in the Pudong New District and is about 30 kilometers or 19 miles to the east of downtown Shanghai, the city center. It is also about 40 kilometers or 24.9 miles from the Hongqiao International Airport. The entire airport is 40 square kilometers or 15 square miles in size. Its location is directly adjacent to the eastern Pudong coastline.

The Pudong Airport in Shanghai is one of the most famous and important airports in China. Its size is a testament to the important role it plays in the country. It currently has one main terminal and two terminal concourses, with all three conveniently connected by passageways, plus thirteen baggage transfer belts, twenty-eight boarding bridges, and several shopping areas and restaurants. Expansion plans are currently underway and are expected to increase the airport’s annual capacity to 60 million passengers. Internationally, the airport is currently the 22nd busiest airport in terms of international traffic.
The Pudong Airport is the international hub of Air China and the main hub for Shanghai Airlines and China Eastern Airlines. It also serves private airlines namely Juneyao Airlines and Spring Airlines. In sum, all airlines that fly in and out of the airport follow routes to 62 domestic cities and 73 international locations.

Shanghai Pudong Airport Shuttle Bus
The Pudong Airport Shuttle Bus has ten bus lines dedicated to transporting passengers to and from the Pudong International Airport. Eight out of the ten bus lines run from the airport to the city center, while the remaining two are long-distance bus lines that run to and from nearby cities including Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Yiwu, among others.

Maglev Train
Passengers can also take the Shanghai Maglev Train to get to the Pudong International Airport. This operates between the airport and Longyang Road. Trains depart every 15 to 20 minutes from the Pudong Airport Subway Station daily at 6:45 to 21:40. The trip lasts for only 8 minutes, making it the fastest route to the airport. The charge, however, reaches up to 50 yuan for an ordinary single-trip ticket and up to 160 yuan for a VIP ticket. Subway
You can also take the subway line 2 to Pudong International Airport by getting off at Guanglan Road Station and transferring to the 4-car metro train to get to Pudong Airport. The whole trip costs 9 yuan, but if you’re only traveling from Pudong to Hongqiao or vice versa, the rate is just 8 yuan. The trip between the two airports, however, takes 1 hour.
Taxi
You can also take a taxi to Pudong International Airport. Taxi fare from the center of Shanghai to Pudong International Airport and vice versa costs around 150 yuan. The whole trip will take approximately 50 minutes.
