Guilin Weather in June: Midsummer Is Coming

Written by Fabio Updated Apr. 1, 2026

June marks the beginning of midsummer in Guilin. Daytime temperatures usually reach around 33°C (91°F) and can occasionally rise to 36°C (97°F). However, June is often breezy, which can make the weather feel more comfortable than the temperature suggests.

June also receives more rainfall than most other months, and showers can sometimes be quite heavy. Fortunately, these downpours are usually short, often lasting only about 20 minutes. After the brief but intense rain, sunshine often returns quickly, and the sky clears again.

Guilin Weather Conditions in June

In June Guilin typically experiences around 26 rainy days, along with about 2 cloudy days and only 2 sunny days. The total amount of rainfall in June is more than any other months.

Middle 10 Days 23℃ (73°F)/32℃ (90°F) 120 mm Rainy

Is June a Good Time to Visit Guilin

June is still a good month to visit Guilin. As midsummer approaches, temperatures continue to rise, but the scenery remains at its most vibrant. Since the summer school holidays have not yet begun, tourist attractions are usually quieter, and hotel prices are generally lower than in July, when the peak summer travel season starts.

However, the weather can be quite humid, and it is easy to sweat during the day. Visitors are therefore advised to bring several short-sleeved T-shirts for changing.

What to Wear in Guilin in June

Wear light-colored short-sleeve T-shirts for the upper body and bring about three pieces—cotton, ice-silk, or quick-dry fabrics all work well. Since clothes can be difficult to dry, changing one each day is ideal. A lightweight sun-protection jacket is also essential.

For the lower body, wear lightweight long pants in cotton, ice-silk, or quick-dry materials; shorts are also fine, but be sure to bring mosquito repellent. Shoes should be non-slip and waterproof—sports sandals or light hiking shoes are good choices.

Other useful items include an umbrella and a portable raincoat, as an umbrella alone may not protect you during heavy wind and rain. It’s also important to protect your phone, so bringing a waterproof case is highly recommended.

What to Do in Guilin in June

June can be quite hot in Guilin, and heavy showers are common. However, there is still plenty of sunshine between the rain, making it a good month for outdoor sightseeing.

Li River Cruise and Yulong River Bamboo Rafting

In June, the water level of the Li River is ideal and the river becomes wider than in the dry seasons. Frequent rainfall keeps the hills along the banks fresh and lush green. After heavy rain, mist sometimes drifts over the river, creating a dreamy atmosphere. More often, however, the sunshine returns quickly once the rain stops, and if you are lucky, you may even see a rainbow over the karst hills.

The Yulong River, the most famous branch of the Li River, also has an excellent water level for bamboo rafting in June. Visitors are advised to bring a raincoat, as sudden showers can occur. Because of the higher water level, when the bamboo raft passes over small dykes, water splashes up around the raft, adding a fun and slightly exciting experience that many younger travelers especially enjoy.

Impression Liusanjie Show

This is a spectacular outdoor performance directed by Zhang Yimou, who also directed the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony. The stage is set directly on the Li River, with 12 karst peaks forming a dramatic natural backdrop. Through music, lights, and dance, the show tells a series of romantic local stories inspired by the landscape and culture of Guilin.

The performance usually begins at 8:00 p.m., when the temperature is around 25°C (77°F), making the evening much cooler and more comfortable than the daytime heat.

West Street

With a history of more than 1,400 years, West Street has gradually developed into an art and cultural center in Yangshuo. Many talented local craftsmen run their own small shops along the street, offering handmade works that make excellent souvenirs for visitors.

As the street has become increasingly popular with international travelers, some foreign visitors have even chosen to settle here and open their own cafés, bars, or shops. When a sudden summer shower arrives, it can be a pleasant experience to relax in one of the cozy coffee shops along the street and watch the lively atmosphere outside.
