Hong Kong to Guilin: Best Way to Go to Guilin from Hong Kong

The distance between Hong Kong and Guilin is about 600 kilometers. There are 2 ways to travel from Hong Kong to Guilin: by train and by plane. Both the train and the plane offer direct routes. The train takes 3 hours, while the plane takes 90 minutes.

In terms of speed, planes are much faster than trains. But when you add in the time it takes to get from the city center to the airport and check in, it takes at least 4 hours in total. Also, direct flights aren't available every day. If you have to transfer, it'll take over 20 hours.

However, trains depart at different times throughout the day, and train stations are close to the city center, making travel more convenient. So, I suggest you take the train.

Hong Kong to Guilin by Train

There are only three trains from Hong Kong to Guilin. The trains depart from Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station and arrive at Guilin West Railway Station. The journey takes 3 hours, and the price of a second-class seat is USD104/CNY721.

When boarding at Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station, you need to go through two border control checks, known as the co-location clearance. To avoid disrupting your trip, arrive at the railway station at least 1.5 hours in advance.

Hong Kong West Kowloon Station Transportation

Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station is located in the Yau Tsim Mong District and is the only railway station in Hong Kong. It's situated between Kowloon Station and Austin Station, just 3 kilometers away from Mong Kok, offering very convenient transportation.

By Subway: You can take the Tuen Ma Line and get off at Austin Station, then walk 200 meters to reach Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station. Or, you can take the Airport Express or Tung Chung Line, get off at Kowloon Station, and walk 900 meters to the station.

Take a Taxi: Taxis in Hong Kong can be hailed by waving your hand. Different colored taxis have different fares, but all use meters for charging and only accept cash, usually in Hong Kong dollars.

Guilin West Railway Station Transportation

There's no subway system in Guilin, so your main transportation options within the city are buses or taxis.

By Bus: Guilin West Railway Station is located in Lingchuan County, about 16 kilometers from the city center. You can take Bus 22 or Bus 303 to reach the downtown area. The fare is CNY2.

Take a Taxi: Taxis in Guilin charge based on distance and time. However, with the popularity of ride-hailing apps, fewer people opt for traditional taxis. You can pay using Alipay/WeChat Pay or cash (only RMB accepted).

Hong Kong to Guilin by Train (Transfer in Guangzhou)

If you can't get a direct train ticket to Guilin from Hong Kong, you can first take a train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, and then transfer to another train from Guangzhou to Guilin. This way, there are more train options available, and it's easier to secure tickets.

Hong Kong to Guangzhou By Train

There are 30 trains departing from Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station every day. The earliest train leaves at 7:20 AM, with a journey time of 1 hour and 7 minutes. The price for a second-class seat is USD50/CNY344.

Guangzhou to Guilin By Train

60 trains are running from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Guilin every day. The earliest train departs at 6:03. The journey takes 2 hours and 9 minutes. The price of a second-class seat is USD54 or CNY377.

Hong Kong to Guilin by Train (Transfer in Shenzhen)

Transferring in Shenzhen can be your third train travel option to go to Guilin. Shenzhen is the closest mainland city to Hong Kong. It takes only 20 minutes to get from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, but the overall travel time won't be shortened because of that.

Hong Kong to Shenzhen by Train

70 trains are running from Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station every day. The earliest train departs at 7:01, and the journey takes 18 minutes. The price of a second-class seat is USD10 or CNY75.

Shenzhen to Guilin by Train

There are 15 trains from Shenzhen North Railway Station to Guilin every day. The earliest one departs at 7:46. The journey takes 5 hours and 13 minutes. The price of a second-class seat is USD44 or CNY310.

Hong Kong to Guilin by Plane

There are only 2 direct flights from Hong Kong to Guilin every week. One takes off at 15:20 on Thursday, and the other takes off at 14:50 on Sunday. The price for an economy class seat is USD302 or CNY2092.
