Chengdu Transport - How to Get to Chengdu

As a transport hub in the southwest area of China and the main access city to Tibet, Chengdu has easily approached thanks to its air routes and railways extending nationwide. The city buses and metros continue to develop, providing locals and tourists with great convenience.

Getting to/from Chengdu by Air

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is in Shuangliu District, a suburb of the city, 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) away from the downtown area.

As the largest airport in the southwest area of China, there are many flights from Chengdu to other major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Xi’an.

There are also many flights to Lhasa and Hong Kong as well as international flights to France, Germany, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan. Search here for Chinese domestic flights and airfares.

How to get to/from the Airport by Shuttle Bus

There are several bus routes connecting the airport with central Chengdu. The departure time of airport buses depends on the arrival times of flights.

Line 1 (Routes to Minshan Hotel)

Line 2 (Routes to North Railway Station)

Line 3 (Routes to East Railway Station)

Line 4 (Routes to New International Exhibition Center)

Line 5 (Routes to Pidu District Xipu Bus Station)

How to get to/from the Airport by Metro

Passengers can take metro line 10 at T1 and T2 of Shuangliu International Airport nowadays. It is very easy for passengers to find the metro station. This line has stretched to Taipingyuan, Cujin, Huaxing, and Jinhua. It costs 4 yuan for the whole single trip, opening from 06:00 to 23:00. For passengers who want to visit Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, they can take metro line 10 to Taipingyuan Station, then transfer to line 3 and arrive at Dongwu Yuan Station. Get out from Exit B and then take bus 198 or 198A directly to the base.

How to get to/from the Airport by Inter-city train

There is an underground train station in the Shuangliu Airport. The ticket office and waiting hall are located in the basement in front of terminal building 2 and the platforms are on the second floor. Passengers can go to the airport by train from the East or South Railway Station. Passengers who just get off the plane also can take the train to the downtown area. It takes about 10 minutes to South Railway Station and 16 minutes to East Railway Station. Besides, tourists can also take trains which are bound for adjacent cities such as Leshan, Emeishan, Meishan East, Qingshen, Deyang, Mianyang.

How to get to/from the Airport by Taxi

Travelers can take a green cab to the airport from the downtown area. The fee is about 50 yuan. The taxi fare is about 80 -100 yuan from the Airport to North Railway Station and about 60 yuan to East Railway Station.
