In Guangzhou, the most popular way to pay is mobile payment. You can also use cash, but only RMB is accepted. Some large shopping malls accept credit cards, but small street shops do not.
Can you get Tax-free Shopping in Guangzhou
Except for shopping in duty-free shops, purchases made in ordinary stores are not tax-free. However, you can get a tax refund when leaving the country as long as you meet certain conditions:
1. You have continuously resided in China for no more than 183 days.
2. You have spent over 200 yuan at the same tax refund store on the same day.
3. Your goods have not been unpacked or used.
4. Your departure date is within 90 days of the date of purchase.
5. You need to hold a tax refund application form for departure and a value-added tax invoice, both of which can be obtained from the merchant.
There are two tax refund methods for you to choose from.
The first is to handle the tax refund at the departure port. Guangzhou currently has three departure tax refund ports: Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Nansha Port Passenger Terminal, and Pazhou Hong Kong-Macau Passenger Terminal.
