The 2025 Yi Peng Lantern Festival will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov 5, and Thursday, Nov 6, at Chiang Mai Arts and Design (CAD), which is the largest government-sponsored mass sky lantern release venue in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The Sky Lantern Festival is part of the Water Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The activities of the Water Lantern Festival are free, and the water lanterns are purchased by the participants themselves. However, for safety considerations, the Sky Lantern Festival will be held at a designated place for launching paper lanterns into the sky. You must book tickets for entrance in advance!

Pick up and Drop off
- Shared bus/red cab pickup: 1 PM - 3 PM at PAYAP UNIVERSITY PIH Student Dormitory, Q2WR+R5J, Tambon Nong Pa Khrang, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai 50130, Thailand. Find the staff at the meeting point who wear uniforms with the CAD logo. Show your e-ticket for verification and then line up to hop on the bus to the venue. Shuttles operate every 10 minutes from 1 pm to 3 pm, with the last shuttle departing by 3 pm. Ensure you arrive at the pick-up point at least 10 minutes before the departure time. The journey takes around 1 hour.

Special Reminder
- Weapons, illegal objects, and alcohol are prohibited from being taken into the venue.

- Dress requirement: women must wear full skirts, and no sleeveless tops are allowed. Kids and Men - No shorts allowed.

- An e-ticket will be sent to you by email. Please download the e-ticket PDF on your phone or print it out. Guests need to sign up for their transfer with the E-Ticket QR code at the meeting spot before lining up for transportation.

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Meet at PAYAP UNIVERSITY and Venue Transport
Make your way to the meeting point at PAYAP UNIVERSITY PIH Student Dormitory using your transport. Present your e-ticket to hop on the shuttle to the event location; it takes approximately a 1 hour drive. Shuttles operate every 10 minutes from 1 pm to 3 pm, with the last departing by 3 pm.
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm: Check-in, Artisanal Activities, and Cultural Shows
Upon arriving at the venue, register at the main entrance with your e-ticket. Receive a lanyard badge and a keepsake before exploring the Craft and Art section, the vibrant 'tribal village,' and enjoy various cultural performances and engaging activities such as the ceremonial water lantern launch.
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm: Dinner Delights
Indulge in an authentic Thai Lanna Buffet Dinner, complete with an array of snacks, delectable desserts, and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages. For our vegetarian guests, specially curated options are available.
7:30 pm - 8:15 pm: Entertainment and Spiritual Observances
Venture to the ceremony area near the grand pagoda for captivating displays of live drumming, candlelight shows, religious traditions, and soul-stirring chants led by revered monks.
8:15 pm - 8:45 pm: Lantern Release and Fireworks Spectacle

8:45 pm: Concluding Ceremony and City Return
As the event draws to a close, a return shuttle service awaits to transport you back to the city. You can opt for drop-off at either the bustling Maya Shopping Center or the vibrant Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, taking into account the prevailing traffic conditions.
