Story Chinese Zodiac Snake Story

Long ago, snakes originally had four legs, while frogs had no legs. Diligent frogs often catch insects not only to feed the lazy snakes but also to help humans get rid of pests. However, snakes were naturally gluttonous and lazy, often pretending to be sick to trick frogs into finding food for them. This behavior gradually caused people's dislike.

As time went on, snakes became hostile towards humans and even started attacking them. Upon learning of this, the Jade Emperor sent heavenly soldiers to punish the snakes by cutting off their legs and giving these legs to frogs. With their new legs, frogs became even more diligent, continuing to catch pests in the fields to protect crops.

After losing their legs, snakes deeply reflected on their mistakes. They began hunting pests to reduce infestations for humans. Even more touchingly, after snakes died, they offered their bodies to humans as valuable medicinal materials. Seeing that snakes had repented in time, the Jade Emperor granted them the sixth position among the Twelve Zodiac Animals.
