China boasts numerous shopping streets of a large variety in various regions. All of them have their own characteristics and styles, some of which are time-honored and of historic significance, and some of which are paradises of the latest fashion.

Here are the top 10 shopping streets that shouldn’t be missed while visiting China.

1. Causeway Bay in Hong Kong

As a paradise of the latest fashion in Hong Kong, Causeway Bay is the world’s third expensive section, second only to the Fifth Avenue of America and Champs Elysees of Paris. Causeway Bay integrates the luxury of Paris, the elegance of Milan, the classics of London, and the minimalist style of New York.

Causeway Bay used to be Times Square of Tram Depel, which has become one of the top 10 scenic spots in Hong Kong. It’s full of beautiful things in the eyes, showing the enchantment of the metropolis.

2. Nanjing Road in Shanghai

Nanjing Road, named Park Lane before, is the oldest commercial street in Shanghai, which has been the most prosperous business street since the last century. This seemingly endless stretch of Nanjing Road attracts hundreds, if not thousands, of fashion-seeking, bargain-hunting shoppers from around the world, daily.

For visitors to Shanghai, Nanjing Road is an absolute must-see, on par with a visit to the Bund itself. The shopping mall, like the Bund, lies within the former British Concession, which was eventually merged with the American Concession to form the International Settlement.

3. Chunxi Road in Chengdu

Built in 1924, Chunxi Road is a prosperous and time-honored commercial street in the downtown area of Chengdu. It’s reputed as the first merchandise street in West China. 

According to the ranking list of China’s top commercial street made by New weekly, Chunxi Road is reputed as the No.1 commercial street in Central and West China judging by fascination, delicacy, convenience, environment for rest, popularity, and commerce, which ranks only second to Causeway Bay of Hong Kong and Nanjing Road of Shanghai.

4. Wangfujing Street in Beijing

Wangfujing Street stretches from East Chang'an Avenue in the south to the National Art Museum of China in the north with a length of 1.6 kilometers. It is the most well-known commercial street in Beijing, serving general merchandise, clothing, diamond, jewelry, and the like.

It boasts about 280 brand-name stores, including China time-honored brands and multinational well-known brands. Besides, a variety of unique stores can also be found in Wangfujing.

5. Ximending in Taipei

Ximending, located in the northeast of Wanhua District in Taipei City, is the most important business area and the first pedestrian area of Taipei, bustling with noise and excitement. Ximending is deeply loved especially by young people.

6. Beijing Road in Guangzhou

Beijing Road Walking Street is located in the city center of Guangzhou, with a history of more than 1000 years. It is the start of the foundation of original Guangzhou and the most prosperous commercial center in history from past to present.

Not only has it created a rare wonder in the world, but also witnessed the culture and historical civilization of Guangzhou. The pedestrian street has all kinds of stores where visitors can buy most things they want, including clothes, food, books, and CDs, etc.

7. Jiefangbei in Chongqing

Located in the center of Chongqing City, Jiefangbei is the most compelling fashion landmark of Chongqing, and Jiefangbei shopping center is one of the largest commercial pedestrian blocks in western China. 

8. Jianghan Street in Wuhan

Jianghan Street is located in the heartland of Hankou, stretching from Yanjiang Avenue in the south to Jiefang Avenue in the north, with an overall length of 1,600 meters. With a history of over one hundred years, it’s a famous walking street in China. 

9. Hunan Road in Nanjing

With a length of 1,100 meters and a width of 30 meters, Hunan Road boasts 238 stores of a variety. It’s located in the northwest of Nanjing City, covering the business area of 87,000 square meters, which features famous brands at home and abroad, quality goods, topflight restaurants, and big department stores. Hunan Road is one of the most prosperous streets in Nanjing, which is crowded in the daytime and bustling and bright at night.

10. Central Avenue in Harbin

Harbin Central Avenue has been the largest and longest Pedestrian Street in Asia, dating back to the year 1898, and it is the most prosperous business street in Harbin at present. With a length of 1,450 meters and a width of 21.34 meters, Central Avenue features European-style buildings, row upon row of boutique commercial buildings, and a relaxation area with rich multicolored decorations. In Northeast China, Harbin Central Avenue is as renowned as the Bund in Shanghai.
