Xiamen Weather
Xiamen enjoys a sub-tropical maritime climate, which is mild and rainy. There is no intense heat of summer or severe cold of winter.
It has an annual average temperature of 21℃ and an annual rainfall of about 1,100 mm. The annual highest temperature is 24.5℃ on average, and the annual lowest temperature is 18.7℃ on average. The average temperature in the coldest month is over 13 ℃.
Thanks to the sufficient sunshine in Xiamen, the flowers are in full bloom throughout the year.
Due to the influence of maritime airstream and temperature difference of the Pacific Ocean, Xiamen is affected by typhoons five or six times each year on average. They are mainly concentrated in July, August, and September.
The coldest month is January, with the monthly average temperature of 12.6℃ and the lowest temperature of 9 to 11℃.
The hottest month is July, with a monthly average temperature of 28℃. The highest temperature of 31 to 33℃.
The rainy season is from May to June, and the typhoon season lasts from July to September. Thus, during these two periods, it's necessary for tourists to bring umbrellas and raincoats.
Besides, it should be noticed that people had better not go out when there is a typhoon warning. During that time, all the ships by the seaside will not go.
Except for Typhoon season, Xiamen is suitable for traveling all year round. The best time to visit Xiamen is in spring and autumn.
Spring in Xiamen (March to May)
Spring lasts from March to May in Xiamen, and it's one of the best periods to visit Xiamen. There is gentle and lovely sunshine, and tourists can also enjoy the pleasant sea breeze.
Traveling to Xiamen during this period, island scenery shouldn't be missed. For packing, prepare long-sleeved coats, light sweaters, and umbrellas.

In March, though the temperature rebounds gradually. The weather is relatively changeable, and cold days will remain for a period. March is characterized by cloudy and foggy days. The average low temperature is 12℃ and the average high temperature is 19℃.
In April, the temperature continues rising sharply. The average high temperature is 23℃ while the average low temperature is 16℃. Influenced by the monsoon, April is characterized by torrential rain and hailstones.
May marks the beginning of summer, with the average high temperature of 27℃ and the average low temperature of 20℃. There is sufficient rainfall in May.
Summer in Xiamen (June to September)
Summer lasts from June to September in Xiamen, which is mainly characterized by occasional torrential rain and typhoon. The average temperature is 32 °C. For packing, short-sleeved shirts, shorts, sun cream, and sun hats are necessary.
June is the rainy season with enough rainfall, and there is torrential rain from time to time.
July is characterized by strong sunshine. It has the highest average temperature among that of the whole year.
It's very hot in August with an average temperature of 28 ℃ and the extreme highest temperature of 38℃. Besides, there is a frequent typhoon in August.
In September, the temperature drops gradually, and the rainfall decreases.

Autumn in Xiamen (October to November)
Autumn lasts from October to November in Xiamen, with comfortable weather conditions. The temperature drops quickly, contributing to the cool weather. There is little rainfall in autumn.
In October, the average high temperature is 23℃, and the average low temperature is 16℃.
In November, the average high temperature is 20℃, and the average low temperature is 12℃. For packing, long-sleeved coats and light sweaters are necessary.

Winter in Xiamen (December to February)
Winter in Xiamen lasts from December to February. The climate is mild and relatively dry. The average temperature is 13℃.
In December, the temperature continues to drop, with the lowest temperature of 14℃.
February has the lowest average temperature, with the lowest temperature of 2℃.
February marks the end of the dry season and the beginning of rainfall. For packing, thick overcoats and sweaters are necessary.
