What to Wear in Zhangjiajie in August

1. A T-shirt and shorts should handle most of your clothing requirements. An added bonus is if they are quick-dry clothes. Light summer clothes keep you cool and don’t stay wet for too long. 1. August is maybe the best time to go river rafting on the Mengdong River. The rafting itself is a bit tame- the carefully built waterways are safe, and paddling really isn’t necessary, so it’s great for beginners with zero experience.

2. A boat ride Baofeng Lake is another good visit in August. The cool water is a great break from the heat.

3. Hiking Tianmen Mountain is a good experience year-round. In the late summer hotness, you may want to take the cable car, which is a less exhausting alternative for climbing up the mountain yourself. The rocky peaks are cool and windy, providing a welcome respite from the muggy August atmosphere.

4. Yellow Dragon Cave is a good place to go to escape the summer heat. The cave maintains a constant temperature of around 18º C (64.4º F) and is thus a cool, dark break from the summer sun.
