June in Zhangjiajie sees a slight decrease in tourist numbers from May, but an increase in sun and rain. Zhangjiajie is in the monsoon region of central China, so you should certainly expect a lot of rain- 16 days of the month rain, and June has the highest rainfall of the year.

Is June a good time to visit Zhangjiajie?

June is a good time to visit- if you come prepared. It’s the height of the rainy season, and it’s hot and sunny. The views are still spectacular, and the cool valley and cave make for great breaks from the daytime heat, just be prepared to deal with tourists, heat, and rain.

You can pack light in June, bringing fewer clothes thanks to the heat. Also, although it is tourist season, there are many things going on in China that bring down the overall number of visitors from May to June.

Long hours of sunlight also make for good hiking and exploration- as well as sunset views.

What to Do in Zhangjiajie in June

June is a good time for sightseeing and photography, oceanic expanses of clouds will accompany you as you make your way through this mystical park.

1. Tianmen Mountain can be hiked in 2-3 hours. At 1,519 meters, it is the highest peak in Zhangjiajie, and really the must-see of your trip there. There is also a cable car, in the case of rain, or if hiking isn’t your thing.

2. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is also a good visit in June. The clouds provide a nice respite from the summer sun, and in mid-summer, the flora and fauna are in full swing. From here you can also see the famous Hallelujah mountain, from the Avatar movie.

3. The world’s longest and highest Glass-bottom Bridge (430 meters long and 300 meters from the valley floor) is another sight to see in the summer. If you are lucky, a cloud may even float around you or beneath you as you pass over the bridge.

4. Yellow Dragon Cave provides a welcome respite from the summer heat. The constant 19-18º C (64-66º F) temperature in the cave is comfortable, and the massive cave is an exploration in itself.

Tips for Visiting Zhangjiajie in June

1. Prepare for the heat, the sun, the rain, and a hefty amount of tourists.
2. Although it is “shoulder season,” you probably won’t have to elbow your way through as many tourists as in May, and some of the more physically demanding attractions- like hiking Tianmen- will not be inundated with tourists.
3. Make sure when you are out on your daily activities to bring your sun protection, water, and a rain jacket.
4. Finally, June has the longest hours of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere, so enjoy long days of exploring Zhangjiajie.
