Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou: Train, Plane, Bus, Private Transfer

The best way to travel from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou is by high-speed train + private transfer, offering the best balance of speed, comfort, and convenience. The train from Chengdu East Railway Station to Huanglong Jiuzhaigou Station takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. As the station is still about 90 km from Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park, you will need to take a transfer after getting off the train.

A private transfer takes you from the railway station to the scenic area, making the total journey about 4 hours. With this combination, you can avoid a long, bumpy bus ride and spend more time enjoying Jiuzhaigou.

Flights have few schedules and are prone to weather delays. Buses easily encounter traffic congestion. Both options deliver a poor travel experience and are not recommended.

Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou by Train

There is no direct train from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. You need to take a train from Chengdu to Huanglongjiuzhai Station first, and then transfer to a private transfer, a taxi, or a bus to reach the scenic area.

Chengdu to Huanglong Jiuzhai Railway Station Train

Most high-speed trains from Chengdu to Huanglongjiuzhai Station depart from Chengdu East Railway Station. It runs more than 20 trains every day, so you have plenty of options to choose from. Chengdu South Station also offers some trains, but there are fewer, and the journey from there takes longer.

The train usually lasts between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, and the fastest one can get you there in just 1 hour and 39 minutes. A second-class ticket costs about USD20/CNY135, making it a good value for the speed and comfort.

It is recommended that you take the train at Chengdu East Station because it has the most trains. Both Metro Line 2 and Line 7 go directly to the station, so you can get there conveniently.

Huanglong Jiuzhai Railway Station to Jiuzhai Valley National Park

Huanglongjiuzhai Station is about 90 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, and the ride takes about 2 hours. After you exit the station, there are 3 ways to get to the scenic area.

1. Taxi: After getting into the car, show the driver 请带我去九寨沟景区 (please take me to Jiuzhaigou in English). Or you can use the Didi app to find a car. Just enter your pick-up and drop-off locations on your phone. It takes about 1.5 hours and costs CNY150.

2. Shuttle bus: It costs less, but it runs on fixed schedules, and you may need to wait in line with other travelers.

3. Private transfer: Your driver will meet you at the station exit with a sign bearing your name. You get into a clean, air-conditioned vehicle and go straight to your hotel or the park entrance. How to Get to Chengdu East Railway Station

Take a Taxi: After getting into the car, show the driver 请带我去成都东站 (Please take me to Chengdu East Railway Station in English). Or you can use Didi to find a ride-hailing car.

By subway: Take Metro Line 2 or Line 7 to Chengdu East Railway Station, then exit at the West Exit, and finally walk 120 meters.

Tips for Taking a Train to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu

1. Book your train tickets in advance on China Train. It is recommended to book your train tickets as soon as your itinerary is confirmed, especially if you plan to visit Jiuzhaigou during the peak travel season from August to September.

Your travel advisor can purchase the train tickets on your behalf according to your itinerary, so you don't need to keep track of ticket release times and can increase your chances of securing a ticket.

2. If first class is sold out, consider second class instead. Second-class tickets are more affordable and offer significantly better value for money. Although first-class seats are slightly wider, there is hardly any noticeable difference in actual riding comfort.

3. On the day of your journey, arrive at the train station at least 1 hour before departure. This gives you enough time to go through security checks, find your waiting area, and locate your platform, as large stations can be crowded and confusing.

Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou by Flight

The flight from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou takes 55 minutes. The economy class fare is USD237/CNY1600. They are not available every day, so the flight times may not match your travel schedule.

The plane departs from Tianfu Airport and lands at Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport. After landing, you still have to take a taxi or a shuttle bus to reach the scenic area. That transfer takes about 2 hours.
