According to Chinese element theory. Each snake year is associated with one of the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.

So there are 5 types of snakes: metal snakes, wood snakes, water snakes, fire snakes, and earth snakes. 2025 will be the year of the wood snake. 

Five Elements of the Snake
