You will still need some warm weather clothes in September, as the daytime highs can get into the upper twenties (upper eighties in Fahrenheit). Bring at least a couple of t-shirts and one pair of shorts- especially if you plan on doing any outdoor activities.
Fortunately, it doesn’t really get cold in the night time, so a simple water-resistant jacket can do double duty, keeping you warm and dry in the case of cool rainy weather.
It’s still a good idea to bring some sunblock and deodorant however, the precipitation may let up as a sign of summer’s end, but the heat and sun are still strong.
Is September a good time to visit Hong Kong?
September is a great month to return to the outdoors in Hong Kong. The weather is warm but no longer oppressively hot and humid. The lower level of rainfall makes things like hiking and camping significantly more enjoyable as well- as the views from mountaintops and beaches will be better than the dreary gray of rainclouds. Hitting the islands like Lamma and Lantau, and their respective beaches are great ideas in Hong Kong in September.
Typhoons are still a threat unfortunately, especially in the first 2 weeks of the month. However, as the Earth’s climate changes, typhoon season seems to be lasting longer, so make sure to keep abreast of weather updates as you fly in and out of Hong Kong.
