Yao Mountain

Yaoshan Mountain lies in the east of Guilin, 12 km from downtown. It is the highest mountain in Guilin at 903.3 meters.

Yaoshan Mountain received its name from a Yao emperor who built a temple at the top of this mountain in the Tang dynasty. The mountain offers different views depending on the season. During springtime, azalea flowers are everywhere. In the summer, bamboos compete with each other for greenness. In autumn the falling red maple leaves make the hill appears as though it is on fire. Winter's snow on the mountain is as transparent as pure crystal.

The Mountain has several places of interest, including Yao Temple, White Deer Temple, Jade Breast Pond and Tianci Field. At the foot of the mountain is Jingjiang King Tombs complex. Covering over 100 square meters, there are 11 tombs for Kings and over 300 tombs for generals and imperial families and clans. This complex is one of the most famous attractions in the area.

Completed in 1996, a 1,416.18 meters long cable car track connects the top and bottom of the mountain. The 1,000m sloping track curves around the hill 18 times, allowing riders to see different sceneries as they travel down the hill.

The cable cars were imported from Doppelmatry Cable Car Co. in Austria. They are equipped with alarm systems and TV monitors. The cable is 1416.18m long from top to bottom.

The toboggan slide was imported from WIGAND Toboggan Co. in Germany. It is 100m long with 18 turns. There are beautiful views of rocks, flowers and brooks on each side when coming down the mountain on the slide.

The cable car and toboggan rides are great ways to enjoy both natural beauty and man-made structures on Yaoshan Mountain.

More Tips:

The cable cars of Yaoshan Scenic Area are being maintained. Thus, Yaoshan Scenic Area have been closed since May, 26th, 2012. It hasn't been decided when it will open to the public.
