Sitting right in the middle of the central business district of Shanghai is the People Square. This is found at People’s Avenue which is in close proximity to South Xizang Road and Fuzhou Road.

History

The current location where the People Square is situated today used to be owned by the Shanghai Race Club. Yes, this was once a venue for horse racing. That was before the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949. When the government has implemented rules against gambling, then the place was converted to a park. Since it is an expansive location, the People Square eventually became a location for various events and celebrations within the city.

Highlights

Today, this has also been renamed the New People’s Square. It is the perfect rendezvous for people, whether it is for business or simply mingling with friends or family. The total area of this beautifully manicured location sums up to more than 130,000 square meters. About 80,000 of which are covered with lush greens and trees. To make the place even more endearing, there are also several types of flowering plants which add a pop of color to the surroundings.
