Travel from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie
Hong Kong has no direct flights nor direct trains to Zhangjiajie. How can you travel between them? We recommend first going to Shenzhen from Hong Kong and then directly flying to Zhangjiajie from there!
Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie Flights
There is no direct flight from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie. The fastest way to travel is to get to Shenzhen first and then directly fly from Shenzhen’s airport to Zhangjiajie.
Option 1: Hong Kong – Shenzhen – Zhangjiajie
Step 1: From HKG to SZX by Airport Bus
- Departure: Counters A17 and A18, Arrivals Hall, Arrivals Level (L5), T1, Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
- Arrival: Passenger Lounge at Ground Transportation Centre, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX)
- Duration: about 2 hours
- Frequency Daily: Every 30 minutes (07:00-19:30)

Step 2: From SZX to DYG by Direct Flight
There is only 1 nonstop flight from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport to Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport every day. It is operated by China Southern Airlines and usually departs at night.
The flight will take approximately 1.5 hours and on average costs 960 CNY. Tickets can be in short supply in the peak travel season.
Option 2: Hong Kong – Shanghai – Zhangjiajie
If you are planning to get from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie by air only, we recommended you transfer to Shanghai with China Eastern Airlines. This journey totally takes about 7.5 hours at an average price of 2055 CNY, one-way.
Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie High-Speed Train
With no direct trains to get from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie, nor from Hong Kong to Changsha, so basically there is no way to take a high-speed train to Zhangjiajie from Hong Kong with only one transfer. It is suggested to first get to Guilin by high-speed train and then fly to Zhangjiajie directly.

China Train Ticket Booking
There is also no direct high-speed train from Guilin to Zhangjiajie. If you are set on going from Guilin to Zhangjiajie by high-speed train only, you’ll need to transfer to Changsha.
Many travelers who transfer to Guilin would choose to stay there for 2 or 3 days, where they can hike up to Longji Terraced Fields, cruise along the Li River, and cycle through Yangshuo countryside. High-Speed Train Travel Tips
- It is advisable to get to the train station at least 30 minutes early because you will need time to pick up your tickets and check in.
- If you travel during China’s peak season, especially Labor Day (May 1-7) and National Day holiday (October 1-8th), book your tickets as early as possible.
- A passport is needed for ticket booking and check-in.
