Guilin Transportation - How to Get to Guilin

Guilin has a convenient transport net consisted of flights, rails, buses, taxis, bikes, boats, etc. Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL) has domestic flights to major cities and a lot of international flights. The railway systems provide cheap, safe, and fast trips to other cities in China.

Guilin Air Transport

Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (Airport Code: KWL) is located in Liangjiang Town, about 28 km southwest of the city center. 

It has domestic flights to the major cities and dozens of international flights such as flights to Japan, Singapore, Korea, Macao, and Hong Kong.

The journey from the airport to Guilin city center takes about 40 minutes and the price of a taxi is about 100 CNY. The airport shuttle bus with a price of 20 CNY runs between the airport and the CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) building which is located at NO.18 Shanghai Road in Guilin. There will be an airport shuttle bus when a flight arrives at the airport. And the shuttle bus from the city center leaves every 30 minutes from 6:00 to 21:30

Get to Guilin by Train

There are three railway stations in Guilin: Guilin Railway Station, Guilin North Station and Guilin West Station. Travelers can take trains from major cities to Guilin such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong. 

Tips: Passengers need to buy sleeper tickets 5 to 10 days in advance because Guilin usually is a mid-route stop in the whole journey.

Get around Guilin by Coach/Bus

There are three main bus stations in Guilin: the South, the North, and Qintan.

Guilin South Bus Station

Guilin South Station is now the biggest bus station in Guilin, providing many bus routes to the counties in Guilin such as Yangshuo, Pingle, and Gongcheng, and other cities in China like Beihai, Liuzhou, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

The coaches leave for Yangshuo every 20 minutes from 7 am to 9 pm in Guilin South Bus Station every day. The journey takes about 70 minutes with a price of 27 CNY.

Different to the direct bus in Guilin South Bus Station, there is another kind of bus heading to Yangshuo which departs from the square of Guilin Railway Station – just outside the railway station. The ticket price for this kind of bus is a bit cheaper ad it leaves more frequently than those from the south bus station but the bus condition is usually worse.

Guilin North Bus Station

700 meters (10 minutes walking) east of Guilin North Railway Station, Guilin North Bus station mainly have short to long-distance buses for the north direction of Guilin, for example, Longji Terraced Fields Scenic Area, Longsheng County.
The direct/non-stop coaches depart from Guilin North Bus Station to Longsheng County in every hour from 8:30 to 18:00 every day, which takes about 90 minutes and 40 CNY.

Guilin Qintan Bus Station

Right next to Guilin Tourist Center, Guilin Qintan Bus Station locates 2 kilometers southwest of Guilin Railway Station. It is the best convenient bus station to travel to Longsheng Longji Terraced Fields – the nonstop bus departs every 20 minutes. Passengers can also take a direct coach to Fenghuang Ancient Town from Qintan Bus Station, which leaves at 11 am every day.

Get around Guilin by Taxi and Bike

Guilin Taxi drivers are friendly and helpful and they can bring passengers to any destinations they want. Taxi in Guilin is reasonably cheap with a basic fare of 7 CNY and a further price of 1.6 per kilometer and plus 1 or 2 CNY for fuel surcharge. The basic fare will be 7.8 CNY after 23:00 at night.

Guilin is a city filled with bikes and electric motors. Visitors can easily rent a bike or an electric motor to explore the new journey in Guilin, especially there are hundreds of bike rentals in Yangshuo at a truly cheap price.
