Shanghai Disneyland

Written by Matteo Updated Apr. 23, 2025

Shanghai Disneyland is a theme park that integrates Chinese elements. The park is divided into 8 themed areas: Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Toy Story Land, and Zootopia. It is the second Disney resort in China.

Quick Facts About Shanghai Disneyland

Best Time to Visit Shanghai Disneyland

The best time to visit Disneyland is on weekdays during spring and autumn. The weather in Shanghai is quite pleasant during these seasons, making it perfect for outdoor activities. Disneyland is a paradise for children, and many parents will take their kids there.

However, on weekdays, most people have to work, so the number of visitors in the park will be relatively lower, which means you will have to wait in line for a much shorter time.

You'd better avoid weekends and Chinese public holidays, such as Labor Day, National Day, and the Spring Festival. During these periods, the park will be extremely crowded, which will greatly affect your overall experience.

Highlights in Shanghai Disneyland

Spend time exploring Shanghai Disneyland's different lands, including Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove, and Tomorrowland. Each offers unique attractions, shows, and dining options.

Mickey Avenue

It's the welcome street of the park. Mickey and his friends are the main theme. Minnie, Donald Duck, and other classic characters will meet you here. Before you go into other themed areas, you can learn about their stories. For example, in Paparino's Gelato shop, you can see murals of Donald Duck's Italian family.

Mickey Avenue is divided into 4 areas: Happy Plaza, Garden Square, Marketplace, and Theater District. Each area is full of Disney's fun and happiness. There are also beautiful mosaic tiles here, like the ones showing Mickey and Donald Duck in the four seasons.

Fantasyland

Fantasyland is the biggest themed area. The Fantasy Fairytale Castle is amazing. You can climb up the castle to look down at the fairy-tale village and the magical forest, or enjoy Disney stories at different attractions. Here, you can ride the Voyage to the Crystal Grotto to experience a magical trip that's first in the world.

You can also go through mine tunnels on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, look down at London on Peter Pan's Flight, explore the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh, and walk through the Wonderland Maze with Alice. No matter how old you are, you can see how fairy tales come to life and last forever here.

Dardens of Imagination

In Gardens of Imagination, you'll see 7 different gardens. They are the Twelve Friends Garden, Musical Garden, Romantic Garden, Green Oasis Garden, Feather Garden, Fantasia Garden, and Fairytale Castle Garden. Each garden shows themes of family love, friendship, and fun. There are fun activities, pretty views, and great photo spots in every garden.

You'll find charming little bridges and paths that connect different parts of the park. It's a perfect place to be with family and friends. As you walk around, you might meet Mickey and his friends. You can also go up the viewing steps to watch the castle shows and the nighttime spectacular. Under the twinkling stars, the garden feels like a dream, as if sprinkled with magical fairy dust.

Tomorrowland

In Tomorrowland, teenagers and young people can have lots of fun. The creative stage is a paradise for bands, DJs, artists, and dancers to perform. Next to it, a winding ramp takes you to Chuang Square and the Xinglutai Restaurant. From the restaurant, you can look out over the whole resort or see the stage.

The sleek design and cool technology in Tomorrowland make you want to explore the future. There are also great stories here: Sam Flynn made Shanghai a permanent gateway between Earth and the Chuang world; the Galactic Federation set up a Stitch monitoring station here; and Buzz Lightyear uses this place as his space headquarters to recruit new soldiers to save planets.

Treasure Cove

The story of Treasure Cove begins in the 17th-century Caribbean pirate era. In Disney's version, the pirates search for treasure and fight monsters, all with a bit of a cheeky attitude in their eyes. When you step into Treasure Cove, you'll feel like you're living the pirate life.

The area has different styles of buildings, like a huge pirate ship, pirate-themed restaurants, and a water play area. The Pirates of the Caribbean - Battle for the Sunken Treasure is a great adventure for all ages with amazing scenes, and the stunts and acrobatics at the Van de Gogh Theatre are super exciting too.

Adventure Isle

Adventure Isle is a special area only at Shanghai Disney. It has fun things like outdoor adventures, water rides, and pretend flying around the world. It looks like an ancient tribe, and people who love history will find lots of cool surprises. Stories and things are happening all around.

In Soaring Over the Horizon, you can look down at beautiful places around the world, like the Shanghai skyline and the Great Wall of China. You can also go to Heritage Discovery Camp, where you can climb paths, zip lines, and rocks, and go through valleys, waterfalls, and cliffs. There are 3 different rope adventure routes with different levels of difficulty to choose from.

You can also go on Roaring Rapids, where you float down from the tallest point in the area through a mysterious cave.

Toy Story Land

In Toy Story Land, you feel like you've suddenly become a tiny part of the toy world. The Slinky Dog Spin takes you into a fun, spinning world. You hold on tight to the handles, feeling the joy of the centrifugal force. There are bright and colorful toy decorations all around. Rex's Racer is a thrilling adventure of speed and excitement. You drive a little car on the track, with Toy Story toys everywhere. Every time you speed up or turn, your heart races faster.

Zootopia

You sit in a little car and ride along the tracks, going through different parts of Zootopia. You see the busy Metropolitan Square, the exotic Sahara Square, the mysterious rainforest area, and the cold Glacier Town-just like in the movie!

You see Judy and Nick, and it's so exciting that you feel like you're part of Zootopia, having a wonderful adventure. You can also join in fun activities, take photos with Judy and Nick's dolls, and feel the joy and energy they bring.

Two-Day CNY1024 CNY767

Note:

Is 1 Day Enough for Shanghai Disneyland

One day is not enough to see everything at Shanghai Disneyland. You can only choose to play on the rides you like. Since Disneyland is very popular, you will spend most of your time waiting in line, especially for the most popular rides. For example, the wait time for Tron Lightcycle Power Run can be up to 2 hours.

I suggest you plan at least two days to visit Disneyland. If you buy a two-day ticket, you can go to the park many times on the same day. This way, you will have more time to enjoy more fun things. Try to get to the park early in the morning. The earlier you go in, the less time you might have to wait in line.

How to Get to Shanghai Disneyland

Disneyland is 20 kilometers away from the Bund. You can take the subway, train, or taxi to get there from the city center.

By Subway

From Pudong Airport to Disneyland: Take Line 2 to Longyang Road Station, then transfer to Line 16 and get off at Luoshan Road Station. Finally, transfer to Line 11 and get off at Disneyland Station. Exit from Exit 1. It takes 80 minutes and costs CNY7.

From Hongqiao Airport to Disneyland: Take Line 2 to Jiaotong University Station, then transfer to Line 11 and get off at Disneyland Station. Exit from Exit 1. It takes 70 minutes and costs CNY7.

By Taxi

From Pudong Airport to Disneyland: It's 23 kilometers away, takes 20 minutes, and costs CNY80.

From Hongqiao Airport to Disneyland: It's 40 kilometers away, takes 50 minutes, and costs CNY140.

Private Transfer

I'd recommend a private transfer. We can arrange a driver to pick you up at the airport. They can take you directly to Disneyland or your hotel first before going to the park. After your visit, they can also drive you back to the city center or wherever you want to go. Our cars won't stop along the way, so it's faster than taking the subway, and the departure times are more flexible.

We'll choose the right vehicle based on the number of people in your group and the amount of luggage you have. There will be enough seats for everyone. Even if you have a stroller, our cars can fit it. If you're interested, please contact us.

Shanghai Disneyland Travel Tips

1. Carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. There are water fountains available where you can refill your bottle. Alternatively, you can purchase bottled water from various food stalls and shops within the park.

2. Consider making dining reservations in advance, especially for popular restaurants or character dining experiences.

3. Arriving early can help you beat the crowds and enjoy popular attractions with shorter wait times.

4. Take advantage of the FastPass system to minimize wait times for some of the most popular rides. On the official Shanghai Disneyland app, you can get a Fastpass. You just need to go back to the Fastpass entrance of the ride within the time shown. Then you can get in quickly. But remember, Fastpasses are limited and not available every day.

5. Shanghai Disneyland offers discounted tickets for children based on height. Children below a certain height (usually around 1.4 meters) are eligible for child-priced tickets.

6. If traveling with children of different heights or ages, take advantage of the Rider Swap program. This allows one adult to wait with a child who can't ride, while others in the party experience the attraction. Then, the adults can switch roles without waiting in line again.
