What to Wear in Zhangjiajie in July

1. T-shirt, shorts, and light summer clothing. It’s the hottest month of the year. You will need to stay nice and cool, especially if you are hitting the trails and doing strenuous activities. Either make sure your clothes are quick-dry or add a rain jacket to your trip.

2. Big water bottle (at least 1.5 liters) for strenuous activity, make sure to bring. This will enable you to enjoy your daily activities for several hours without having to take a break to refill and re-hydrate.

3. Hiking/walking shoes with good traction. Good shoes are especially important if you plan on making hiking a large part of your trip. An added bonus would be water-resistant or waterproof shoes- you don’t want to have your footwear soaked for several days because you get caught in a downpour.

4. Sun protection, including a hat, sunglasses, and some sunblock. July is hot and sunny, and when you are up above 500 meters, (Tianmen peak is over 1,500 meters high), the ultraviolet rays are much stronger.

Is July a good time to visit Zhangjiajie?

July is one of the less-favorable months to visit Zhangjiajie. Although there is less rain than June, there is not much less rain, and July is the hottest month there. Expect to be sweltering during the day- especially in the sunlight, and uncomfortable most of the time.

It’s also high-travel season. School is out, the weather is hot, and people want to do things. Expect to be crowded and dealing with lots of other people for pretty much your whole trip in July. You will also need to make special preparations in advance, thanks to the hordes of tourists. Be prepared for hotels and park entry to be full-price or at least extremely high.

What to Do in Zhangjiajie in July

Just about any of the sights and attractions of Zhangjiajie are available in July. The weather is good, so nothing should be shut down on account of cold, rain, or snow.

1. Tianmen Mountain is good, but it might be better to take the cable car on account of the heat. The peak will be nice and cool in the valley winds, offering a much-needed break from the sweltering summer sizzle.

2. The Mengdong River and Yellow Dragon Cave are two great July attractions- the cool river water and the cave’s constant cool temperature make for a wonderful reprieve from the heat of the summer. The cave can take hours to explore the full expanse of, and the river even has a tame little rafting site for those who want to get up-close and personal with the natural scenery in Zhangjiajie.

Tips for Visiting Zhangjiajie in July

Plan ahead! Make your trip plans well in advance. July is a high tourist season, so accommodation, food, park entry, and everything, in general, will be more expensive, and possibly unavailable. If you want to visit in July, try to plan your trip at least a month in advance.

Make sure to bring summer clothes to stay cool in, have plenty of water, and bring some rain protection or clothes that dry quickly. It will make life much easier, and be a load off of your mind. When you go out for the day, bring a day pack with at least a hat, water bottle, and sunblock. This will make you more independent so you won’t have to find places to refill water, or constantly seek shade.
