Zhangjiajie in autumn

Zhangjiajie, in Hunan province, central China, has a seasonal monsoon climate. It’s typically humid year-round, with lots of rain in the spring in summer seasons. By September, the summer heat is dying down and the rains are also abating, making for a great time to visit this wondrous national park.

With cool, dryer weather, most of the attractions are available and visitors can be cool and comfortable during their stay. Many regard Autumn as the best season to visit Zhangjiajie- however, this makes it part of peak season, when hordes of tourists can crowd the park’s mystical peaks.

Is September a good time to visit Zhangjiajie?

Avatar Mountain

Overall, September is a great time to visit Zhangjiajie. The weather is accommodating- some of the best that you will experience in the national park if you want to stay dry. Some of the summer fun is over, it is probably too cold to go rafting or get in the water there, but it’s perfect for hiking and appreciating the land-based attractions there.

Be warned though, Spring-Autumn is high tourist season, so you can expect a lot more people to join you. This means that park entry is full-priced and hotels, food, and amenities are all going to be top-price there. It’s a good idea to book your trip ahead, so you can be sure to have a place to stay upon arrival.

3. Yellow Dragon Cave is a nice place as well in September. The constant cool cave temperature is ever-present, and the cave is a good contrast from the usually pleasant, albeit changeable weather.
